The Competitive Marketplace is Working!

In a recent letter to FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski, National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA) President & CEO Michael Powell pointed to the innovation displayed at the 2011 Cable Show in Chicago to highlight that the cable industry is working hard to ensure "a fully competitive and innovative retail video device marketplace." Powell also noted that many of the products and services shown at The Cable Show "demonstrated that Congress's and the Commission's video service goals are being achieved in the marketplace."

Nationwide Emergency Alert Test - November 9, 2011

The cable industry has been working closely with representatives of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and others to promote awareness of the first-ever nationwide test of an Emergency Action Notification under the Emergency Alert System (EAS). The purpose of the test is to assess the reliability and effectiveness of the EAS as a public alert mechanism.

This test will be conducted on November 9, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. Central Standard Time and managed jointly by the FCC and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).  Further information about the test can be found on the FCC's website.

The FCC has produced a set of Public Service Announcements (PSAs). You can preview the PSAs here.
