Cable Industry Named a "Winner" at Consumer Electronics Show

The annual Consumer Electronic Show (CES) was held last week in Las Vegas. CES is not only a dream for the gadget lovers among us, but it provides an inside look at the new technologies that will transform the way we live, work and play for years to come.

Cable providers had a tremendous presence at this year's CES, and in fact, were picked by Wall Street analysts as one of the key "winners".  Analysts said that among the good news for cable operators - "TV Everywhere (the ability to offer cable programming on a variety of services and devices) is gaining momentum".

Cable Industry Highlights from the Consumer Electronics Show:

  • Time Warner Cable Building App for Panasonic TVs: App will add value to subscribers by making more content available than what they have in traditional VOD libraries. And for consumer electronics manufacturers, cable apps such as this make devices more desirable because of increased content options.
  • Comcast Rolled Out AnyPlay: Service lets subscribers watch live TV on the iPad. With the new AnyPlay set-top box, Comcast will deliver the incoming channel lineup to the Wi-Fi router on the home network instead of the TV.
  • Time Warner Cable Teamed Up with iControl Networks to Offer Smart Home Management System"IntelligentHome" will provide customers with connected home management services, like security, with remote home-video viewing and window and door sensors, as well as wireless management of home heating, cooling and lighting.

And with the release of new data last Friday that showed cable operators delivered the fastest average broadband download speeds in 2011...cable providers had a banner week!
